Prof. Dr. Koyuncu, Hashimoto Tiroiditinin halk aras\u0131nda guatr diye bilinen tiroid bezinin bir hastal\u0131\u011f\u0131 oldu\u011funa de\u011finerek “Bu hastal\u0131kta v\u00fccut, tiroid h\u00fccrelerini bu h\u00fccrelere kar\u015f\u0131 uyar\u0131lm\u0131\u015f ba\u011f\u0131\u015f\u0131kl\u0131k h\u00fccreleri ile yok etmektedir. Sonu\u00e7 olarak metabolizmam\u0131z i\u00e7in \u00f6nemli olan tiroid hormonlar\u0131 yapacak h\u00fccre say\u0131s\u0131 azalarak bu hormonlar d\u00fc\u015fmeye ba\u015flar. Bu duruma hipotiroidi demekteyiz. Bu durum yava\u015f yava\u015f geli\u015febilir. \u00d6ncelikle bu tabloda guatr denilen tiroid b\u00fcy\u00fcmesi meydana gelir\u201d dedi.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Koyuncu, genelde orta ya\u015f kad\u0131nlarda g\u00f6r\u00fcld\u00fc\u011f\u00fcn\u00fc belirterek “D\u0131\u015far\u0131dan fazla iyot al\u0131nmas\u0131 da bu tan\u0131ya sebep olabilmektedir. Radyasyona maruz kalmakta su\u00e7lanmaktad\u0131r. Genelde orta ya\u015f bayanlar da g\u00f6r\u00fcl\u00fcr. Hastal\u0131kta hipotiroidi geli\u015fmektedir ve bu durumun tedavisi yap\u0131lmal\u0131d\u0131r. Hipotiroidi art\u0131k tiroid bezi yeteri kadar hormon \u00fcretemeyecek duruma geldi\u011finde tiroid hormonlar\u0131 olan T3 ve T4 seviyelerinin d\u00fc\u015fmesi ve TSH seviyesinin y\u00fckselmesi ile olmaktad\u0131r. Hastalara d\u0131\u015fardan tiroid hormonu verilmelidir. Hamilelik d\u00f6neminde hormon ihtiyac\u0131 artacakt\u0131r. Bu durumda ayl\u0131k hormon seviyelerine bak\u0131lmal\u0131d\u0131r. Gebelikte e\u011fer hormon seviyeleri normal olmazsa bebe\u011fin geli\u015fimi bozulaca\u011f\u0131 gibi do\u011fumdan sonrada ciddi problemlerle kar\u015f\u0131la\u015f\u0131labilir.
